This was my second wedding this year to rain out. We had only enough time to finish the family photos, entourage and a few on the ridge, when it came pouring down again. The off camera flash came in handy as the sky darkened. Luckily we already knew there was going to be a post shoot, so we were calm. Heleen and JD got married at Diamond Hill, which is a stunning place for scenic highveld vistas. On the second day the light was dramatic with another thunder storm approaching. More time for photos on the second day shoot means better images.

My cousin had a new baby girl in April and I have not met her until recently. Mareli was an adorable, happy, lovable girl and so I convinced them to come in for a few quick photos. She is now six months old.

I met Bronwyn and Richard at their wedding at Oakfield farm a few years ago when I was second photographer. They recently had a new baby and came for some newborn photos. He was not amused and cried the entire time. We had to abandon the studio lights for some old fashioned available light. Luckily I got time for a few shots before he realised what was happening.

When I heard the words “I am getting dressed at my hairdresser’s house” my heart sank. The wedding was in Ermelo, and I had no idea what to expect. I was surprised to see the house: I would call it a monument to good taste and great design. The owners had a passion for interior design, and I loved every part of the place. The gardens were vast and fantastic. Each part was more like a “room” with a feel and purpose. The weather held and they had a great party. The gardens were the perfect backdrop for the photos.

Dyane’s little boy was all cheeky smiles when he came in. We could make him smile and laugh for all of 45 minutes. His mom bought him a few outfits, and the Santa costume is just the best!

Joanna and Andrew are living the life in Cape Town, but decided to get married in Johannesburg. They chose St John’s College as their venue, Andrew’s alma mater. The old Sir John Baker buildings provided a stunning backdrop to their reception. The service was held at Rosebank Catholic Church. The blue alcove and simple design complemented their service. Joanna bought the dress months before the wedding and managed to keep it secret from Andrew. I loved it’s simple design, Joanna looked regal.

When I met them, I knew Lauren and DuPreez would make a beautiful bridal couple, but they exceeded my expectations by far. I have to give credit to Lyn Reece, the make-up artist. She transformed Lauren from beautiful to cover material. I could not stop taking photos! DuPreez looked great in his tux and they made their day fun and playful. The wedding took place at Makiti in Muldersdrift on a warm spring day.

Natasha’s baby was so sleepy and relaxed, that we could have gone for hours taking pictures. This made it easy to hold and pose him. The end result is what most parents can only hope for. The last picture was used on this year’s Christmas Card

In times gone by, the rich and the aristocrats commissioned paintings of themselves. In many of them a beloved pet was present. Many paintings were done just of the prize animals. These days, if you say you want to take a photo of your pet, your friends will think you a bit mad. Most of my friends have very expensive pedigreed pets, but few of them would consider a professional photo session with them. So I had to beg volunteers to be my test subjects. Charnelle just got this adorable little Yorkshire terrier. Paddington is small, and know his cq (cute quotient).

For the 2009 Fuji awards, I received a silver for the fine arts category. The image is a montage of 6 different photos.
